Away Until Halloween
Unfriendly and I are heading to Charlotte, NC on Wednesday night. FormerBlondie™ and hubby are throwing a Halloween bash on Saturday and we have been invited (read that as early Christmas presents have been given to us in the form of plane tickets).

Unfriendly has been tracking his costume creation progress in his blog. so he is down to the wire.

I have to do laundry, pack and pay bills. Oh and clean.

Happy Halloween!

Glitz Knits - Three
Back in March of this year, Unfriendly and I went on a trip to New York. I had been working on knitting a red and black scarf at that point. I had only been knitting for about a month at that point and didn't want to work on something while on vacation where I'd have to think about what I was doing.

So, I picked up my Christmas present yarn and decided that I was gonna knit me a bag. I didn't have a pattern or enough knowledge to know if what I was doing would work. I just figured that I would sew a big rectangle, stitch the sides together and voila! Le Glitz Bag! I was doing only one type of stitch and had one ball or yarn so working on it while waiting to board the plane, on the plane and in the hotel room was pretty straight-forward. I got about as far as you saw in my previous post before I got bored with it.

I picked it up again in late summer and when I finished the main piece and the strap, I realized that I'd need sides. So, by about early August, this is what I had to assemble:

Assembled to get a rough idea:

The printouts on my table are instructions on how to seam. I initially left long pieces of yarn to use to seam in order to not have to use separate thread. Seaming with the yarn pulled the sides out of shape. It took me quite a long time to figure that out. Here's my critic.

Is she done yet? I am sooooo bored.

*sigh* I'll just sleep in my toys

Pooky gave up on me. I gave up on seaming, ended up going to DC and then got awfully sick. The pieces of bag were left somewhat forgotten on the kitchen table until this past week.

When Unfriendly and I stopped by Michael's last weekend, I found some gorgeous eyelash yarn called Disco. I found matching acrylic yarns and have been wanting to start my next project but swore on finishing this first.

I got some courdoroy from a cloth store for the lining, found some instructions online on how to line and then got my tools ready.

Wait...missing a tool...

...because Lady Glitzy needs to be properly lubricated at all times.

I don't own a sewing machine so I hand stitched the sides and then followed the rest of the instructions on this very helpful site. All was good until I got to the part about attaching the lining to the top of the bag. (Hem stitch? Wtf is a hem stitch?) Here I am applying a hem stitch to my bag.

And here are pictures of the completed bag

Open to show lining

Hard to make out the colors here.

Up close and personal

So, now that I've finshed this I can start up on the next project!

Hyper Ballad Hyper Friday
I am extremely hyper today. Part of the reason is because I finally finished the second project I have listed here which looked like this back in April :

I was able to actually use it today. I've photo documented the process and finished results. Unfriendly currently has the camera so as soon as he's done, I'll get my photos off and upload 'em.

Happy Friday!

My Sunday
It's a bit nutty how many posts I have saved in draft at the moment.

Procrastination, thy slave is Glitzy.

Sunday was enjoyable. Unfriendly and I went to Home Depot to get stuff for his Halloween costume and eventually ended up at Toys R Us. If you've visited his costume construction blog, you will have learned that we're headed to NC to visit a friend of mine. The friend in question? FormerBlondie™. She and her hubby are having a Halloween party in lieu of a housewarming party. She soooo wanted us to be there and for UF to work his Halloween decorating skills that she bought us plane tickets as early Christmas presents.

At Home Depot, we bought some plaster of paris in order to make a mold for a hexoganal bipyrimad. That is the shape of the jewel at the center of the staff that Malaise is carrying.

Our next stop? Michael's. That is a post in and of itself.

Toys R Us happens to be in the same strip mall as Michael's. I thought we could stop in to see if some kids' toy happened to have the jewel shape UF needed to save him some time.

Note: Glitzy + Unfriendly + Toy Store = Wasted Time

We are two adults that just have way too much fun in a kid's toy store.

After the initial brief discussion about the Wiggles ...

UF - God, I hate the Wiggles
G - How do you know about the Wiggles?
UF - I know lots of things.
G - Why do you know about the Wiggles? I don't know about the Wiggles. Wait. Does TMBG do their music.
UF - I know lots of things.

...we set about to our task. The first toy we found that might have had an item that would have worked was called Make Your Own Bling Bling (and in Spanish, it's 'Confecciona Su Propria Bling Bling' bwa hah hah hah hah...I couldn't find an online image that had that) .

The shape with the star in the center would it worked had it not been an octogon. Also, you can't tell from the picture but it has Bling Bling molded into it so it wouldn't have worked as either a mold for his jewel or the actual jewel. Though, we both thought it would be hysterical if the jewel actually had the words 'bling bling' set into it

Then we got sidetracked by talking bears. Remember Teddy Ruxpin? Unfriendly's contention is that taking one of those, tearing half its face off and then modifying the voice module to say other things would be one of the neatest Halloween props ever.

We picked different parts of the store to scour. I ended up in the Barbie section and came across this.

This is Bibble from Barbie's Faerie-opia. I have no idea what that is, but isn't it cute? She (?) matches my old blog template colors. If you press her tummy, she starts shaking and squeaking. I laughed out loud in the store and ran to find Unfriendly. Isn't she cute? Take another look

So, I think for Christmas I want her and the Gir doll that comes with the doggie suit.

Unfriendly came across this

I thought it was kind of neat but wasn't sure what it was. He flipped the eyepatch to reveal that there was a little man in the other eye socket.

G: (laughing) What the heck is THAT?
UF: I think it's a version of Big Brother is watching you.

This is the illustration from the Mega Bloks site which is nowhere near as funny

So, we didn't find the gem in the toy store but did have entirely too much fun searching for it.

To get an update on the gem and costume itself, you can check out progress here.

More Halloween Shtuff
Ms. Bees Knees mentioned that when Halloween comes, she loses her mind as it's her fave holiday. It is mine and Unfriendly's too. While I posted a trial make-up run for my costume earlier in the week, my work is minimal compared to what UF is doing. He's decided to start his own Halloween blog which chronicles the work he's doing on his costume this year.

The mask shown on this blog page originally had hair. I post it here to show that there was additional initial work done that isn't shown on his blog.

Pooky was so very scared (and possibly slightly scarred) when UF donned this mask. I like to think that his eyes are shining destructo-beams.

We usually do something for Halloween, even if it's just dressing up for work. My forté is make-up so I usually can't hold a candle to Unfriendly's total creatiive force.

My junior year of college UF constructed a haunted yard complete with a scary shack, working guillotine and other goodies for a friend of his. The friend's father in law had just wanted a couple of fake graves on his property. Unfriendly and his creation ended up being featured in a local Palm Beach county newspaper since the construction and eventual experience of it drew in some crowds!

Two years ago, Unfriendly was Snow White's stunt double. For some reason, he decided that this stunt double would have a pink mustache and beard, so I got to help him dye his facial hair. He donned a Snow White costume, wig, combat boots, and a 'Hello my name is Snow White's Stunt Double' name tag. A cigar dangled from the corner of his mouth as he did his IT work all day. He won the Halloweeen costume that year hands down.

I recently learned that when he was a young boy he wanted to be a fried egg one year. His mom asked me to have him tell me the story.

Glitzy: You're mom e-mailed me today and told me to ask you about the fried egg costume story.
UF: Oh. One year for Halloween I was a fried egg.
[Glitzy waits a beat or two]
Glitzy: How old were you?
UF: I don't remember.

I razzed him about how GREAT a story this was. I'm sure his mom is really the one with story. The only thing he could remember was that he was adamant about his face having to be painted yellow and that he picked a fried egg because no one else would be a fried egg. Though, his older sister may have had a hand in that. I can just see her trying to get him to pick something that she thought would be totally ridiculous and UF just making it superb.

The Future Glitzy to Be
Here's a l'il blast from my past.

I'm pretty sure this was one of those Sears picture deals. My mom could not get me to smile. This was the closest I got to not looking either bored or cranky.

I have no weekend plans as of yet. I might go see Serenity again. I might sleep the weekend away.
I hope y'all have a good one!

Help
If a 3-D circle is sphere and 3-D square is a cube, what's a 3-D hexagon?

Update: ACW did post the general answer to my question. Now I'm having fun with 'hedrons.
Unfriendly had been trying to find something that looks like the gem in the middle of the staff in this picture. He needs something that is about as big as his fist. Searching for faceted hexagons has yielded ok results but nothing as big as what he needs. It's a hedron darn it. Why doesn't it have an easily searchable name.

Overheard on Elliptical Row
As Glitzy is halfway through her workout, two petite gals take the ellipticals to her right. One girl is Asian, the other is blonde and very tan. Glitzy forgot her mp3 player so she's unable to effectively tune out the conversation.

Blonde Gal: I'm only five feet tall.
Asian Gal: No way! I thought you were taller.
Blonde Gal: You, know...I get that a lot. I must have a tall persona.

What persona do you have?
